I was in Belgium for 2 years in the 70's and have fond memories of the country. So when I came across furnitures from Belgium, there is feelings of nostalgia. Below are photos of living room furnitures:

I will soon be getting a GPS Bay E668 running MapKing R12 software and comes with MapKing Peninsula Map (commercial), Malsing East and West Malaysia as well as Malsing Singapore map.

This GPS device will be an extremely useful device to have in a car as it will help motorists to quickly locate places they want to go.

However, GPS Tracking devices perform a different function. These are devices that one attach to vehicles car tracking to track their movements and can be considered spy devices as it can help suspicious spouse check on movements their other half, help employers check on movements of their employees, help spies follow their prey without being noticed. It sounds like George Orwell's novel Nineteen Eighty-Four "Big Brother is watching you".

As a concerned parent, one should warmly welcome such tracking devices for the purpose of teen tracking for concerned parents to keep track of their teens. Of course teenagers will resent being tracked by parents, but these days crime is rife and they should welcome devices like these as it help parents keep teenagers safe and in a position to assist if ever teenagers gets into problems such as been kidnapped.

As long as the motives are proper, there should be no objections to the use of such tracking (the more negative people will say spying) devices for valid purposes.

I am familiar with products and website reviews, but this is the first time I came across web hosting reviews. What is this web hosting reviews? Well, it is as its description says - it review web hosts (services which host websites). This is a useful service as there must be thousands of web hosts all over the world. Some gives good service, some gives bad. Some cheap web hosting are very cheap and gives bad service, some are very good value for money. I previously had a Peugeut alloy lightweight bicycle but gave (freecycled) it away. Recently I have had some problems with hypertension (high blood pressure). I have since bought a blood pressure monitor and have started physical exercise. However, I need to get outdoors, and I think it will be good to get a bicycle.

There are many types of credit cards around - Visa, Master, Diners, American Express, Discover, etc. However, not all credit cards are the same.

Are you the type who pay the outstanding balance in full at the end of every month or do you pay only the minimum?

If you pay only the minimum, then interest will be charged on the outstanding balance and the interest can be very high. If you belong to the later, you should get a low interest credit card which charge a lower interest rate on the outstanding balance.

Now banks and credit card issuers don't just earn on interest charged on outstanding balance. They also charge the merchants. Now sometimes merchants are not prepared to pay those charges and they may demand pre-paid debit cards instead.

Kitchenette organize space pot rack

With population explosion, large bungalows (stand-alone houses) are now a real luxury. The majority of the people have to make do cramped apartments and condominiums. Because of limited space, the kitchen is normally small. I still remembers my student days of staying in the married students apartment. We had to make do with just a tiny kitchenette which have to share space with the dining room, not unlike the photo below:

With such limited space, it would be great to have a overhead pot rack. Below is a photo of such an overhead pot rack from Enclume pot rack:

Such an overhead pot would have gone a very long way in helping better utilization of the cramped space. However, I am not longer staying in an apartment anymore. My foot is now firmly planted on the ground staying in a more spacious accommodation. I can afford a little teeny bit of "luxury" of using other types of Enclume pot racks like stand-alone pot racks like the one in the photo below:

I have visitor counters installed for all my blogs. I have found from experience that there are frequent hits from searches for maps. Thus one of my strategies is to have posts which include a map to some particular place.

Sources for images of maps

Previously I used to draw my own maps using AutoCAD. This is tedious and time consuming. Now I am thinking of using GPS Tracking devices (GPS is short for Global Positioning System) as a source for the maps.

I am single and my maid has flown to my daughter's home to help take care of Lewis Chew, youngest "blogger" in the world. But it is alright. I have some crock pots with me which can cook my meals overnight.

Note: I thought all crock pots are the same. One size fits them all? No, apparently not. Seems there are crock pots for meat and crock pots for vegetarian.

Peter Chen Online Reputation: Create Profile at LookUpPage

Now that I am embarking on a mission, a Dream Driven Life^TM, this online web application, Professional online profile. I need to project a professional image and be easily found on the Web. I just signed up for an account about half an hour ago, and already my profile can be found via their people search for "Peter Chen" and LookUpPage Peter Chen People search, is the result, or more specifically, Peter Chen Professional online Profile.

Now let us try searching by country, Malaysia. Again, even though my page was set up not long ago, I could be found by country search at LookUpPage Malaysia. Clicking on the link highlighted by an arrow again resulted in getting to my LookUpPage Profile.

Not bad, can be found just less than an hour after adding my Profile. To complete this, all I need to do is to Google "Peter Chen" or "Peter Chen" Malaysia" or "Peter Chen" "Kuala Lumpur Legacy".

Searching "Peter Chen" resulted in a lot of search result not related to me, but searching "Peter Chen" Malaysia resulted in 4 of my pages in the first 10 pages, namely

Peter Chen Blogger Profile in fifth place
and
Peter Chen Flickr Profile in sixth place.

However, obviously my LookUpPage Profile is nowhere to be found (at least in the first SERP or Search Engine Result Page as it had just been published and thus not indexed yet. I am going to ping that page and later on see if my LookUpPage is easily found or not. Note, however, I am using a free account. Perhaps a Pro account will give better result.

Also, perhaps I should give the search engines a "grace period" and try again later to see if my Professional LookUpPage Profile will inch higher on the SERP.

Most bloggers knows about blog directories, but have they ever heard of Shopwiki, the Google of Online Merchant. Why do I refer to this interesting directory as the Google of Online Merchant. This is because Shopwiki indexes all the online merchants it can find, just as Google index every web pages it can find. This is very much unlike other commercial directories where an online merchant owner would have to pay to get listed. Because Shopwiki index all online merchants they can find, I would expect its inventory to be quite complete. This will come in handy if I happened to be searching for photos of power tools for my blog Home Improvements Tips and Tricks.

3GB Communities: Another photo hosting website cum social networking

Most Internet users will know Flickr and probably also the free Photobucket image host. Just found out about 3GB Communities which is another website where you can upload your photo plus it is also some kind of social networking website where you can create a blog (this is one up on Flickr as I don't think Flickr gives you the opportunity to create blogs), chat with other members of the 3GB Communities, meet new and old friends, join groups, send and receive messages, even do 3GB Communities searches including 3GB Communities Advanced Search.

3GB Communities even have what they call "radio" at 3GB Network where you can listen to MP3 hits. I am not too much into music so didn't try that out. One thing I did try out was 3GB Communities search which I hope will turn up photos using search terms like "reef" or something and find photos of reefs uploaded by members. However, I was a bit disappointed to find out that "search" is searching for 3GB Communities members and not photos. However, if I can remember correctly, clicking on a member's link will show his or her album which will have photos he or she uploaded.

But I would not be able to tell if the photos are copyright or uploaded via Creative Commons license like Flickr and if I see a photo I want to use, I would be very much afraid to use it as that could be copyright infringement. If only there is a link I can click on to request that feature to the administrator of 3GB Communities as that will be one feature I would like to have.

One good thing about 3GB communities is this friend requests. Within hours of joining 3GB Communities, I already had 5 friend requests, all accepted of course. Now I have 5 more people I can consider as friends. Don't know about you, but for me, the more friends I get, the merrier it would be.

Please not that this is not always repeatable, so don't call me a nut case if you tried with Netscape Navigator and could not do it. Sometimes, I can. Sometimes I cannot:

Google group truncated problem

Haven't been very regular at Google Blogger Help group, but recently followed a link and reached a thread that seemed out of ordinary to me. The thread was sort of truncated to a very short section and one have to use the vertical scroll bar to see the rest. Below is a screen shot, but the problem is actually worst. The screen shot below showed a deeper message than what I had earlier, but because I use a 22" wide screen, I had to type or copy paste

into the address bar to reduce it to 800x600 screen resolution so the screen shot will be narrow:

Actually, the above screen shot did not show the truncated thread problem as clearly as when I first viewed it with a 22 inch wide screen monitor. The thread was very wide and very shallow (short) with lots of blank space below it. I could not view most of the message. I have to use the vertical scroll bar to view the rest. I was using the Flock social web browser.

To make the screen shot narrow, I had to type
javascript:top.resizeTo(800,600)
into the browser address bar and press the ENTER key to reduce the screen resolution to 800x600. However, this resulted in the truncated thread become deeper and you will just see a small blank space below the thread. The problem was more acute when it was first noticed.

Using photos for online pharmacies, medical blogs and affiliates

Bloggers use blogs for all kinds of reasons and one of them are for uploading photos for various purposes. This will be a demonstration of how a photo found at an online pharmacy which sells Valtrex Medicine was used for a photo of a stethoscope as a hyperlink for stethoscopes in Amazon in the post Stethoscope for medical doctors and students. Click on that photo or the link below the photo to see what you get.

Well, that photo is property of Valtrex and I, being respectful of the copyright of others will have to write to them to ensure they have no objection to the use of their photo a nice stethoscope, and if any objection is indicated, that photo will be replaced by another one, pronto.

More about this online pharmacy Valtrex Prescription. Unlike many online pharmacies, they require a prescription before they will sell prescription medications to you. Difficult? No sweat. It says on their website "If you do not have a prescription, you can choose to use our network of board-certified physicians and can elect to communicate securely and confidentially with that physician prior to any prescription being dispensed. After you place your order, we will walk you through the process through emails." However, I could not find a link to do that, and I suppose you will have to click on the "Contact us" link at the bottom of the page to see how that can be done.

However, there are other interesting links I found called "Ask a doctor" where you can ask about any symptoms you or your loved ones have, and another link to ask about the result of any lab test you may have done but do not understand the significance.

Next week, I will be going to get a lab test to test the sodium level in my blood, and if I can ever get my hand on that report, you can be sure I am going to try them out.

Photobucket forex pop-up nuisance

Got a message about some interesting features in Photobucket. Even made a post, Online photo editor: Photobucket. However, a shock awaits me when I signed into my free Photobucket image host account. Here is a screen shot of what I saw:

Now don't even try to click on that [x] thinking that it will close this nuisance pop-up. It will not close, but instead open a new tab or window that is all about some crap regarding forex (foreign exchange, probably something to do with high risk trading). This is not the first time I come across such deceptive means to get you onto the advertiser's site. Often, I would not click on the [x], avoiding that from bad experience and try to close whatever that is from Windows Task Manager by pressing ctrl+alt+delete. This didn't work and the only way I can get rid of that pesky thing is by closing that browser, but even if I do, I don't know if I will get bothered by it again when I sign into Photobucket.

Going to ask the Photobucket forum and see what response I get.

See that gray box, don't know what it is, jutting out beyond the boundary of the blog? I suspect if that blog is viewed with Internet Explorer 6, maybe even IE7, the sidebar may be pushed to bottom of the page. Wonder if I should take time to view page source to try to diagnose the problem.

Malaysiakini subscription woes

I have tried to subscribe to Malaysiakini for some time, but having problems. I paid via credit card, but got to a page where I am not certain if I have succeeded in subscribing or not. Whatever it is, I received an email from Manage4me giving me my username plus password.

Google AdSense Link Units and Blogger Layout: Problems

Google AdSense allows maximum 3 link units. However, I have noticed that very frequently, if you add the maximum 3 link units, one of them is blank as you can see from the blank space in the right sidebar of the screen shot of this blog.

You can see the blank space at the top of the right sidebar where a Google AdSense link unit is supposed to be. It is highlighted by a red ellipse

Another thing. There were originally 2 HTML/Javascript Page Elements in the left sidebar, one for Google AdSense skyscraper ad unit, one for Amazon Omakase skyscraper unit. I found the Blogger Layout for this blog very strange for displayed in the Layout is only one HTML/Javascript Page Element in the left sidebar.

Today I added the 2 extra Google AdSense link units, one in the left sidebar, and one in the right sidebar using the HTML/Javascript Page Element. I dragged and dropped the newly added Page Element to the second position in the left sidebar in the Layout. Now what do you see in the screen shot above? The Link Unit is in the third position after the Amazon Omakase skyscraper unit!!! See the Blogger Layout for this blog in the screen shot below. The second HTML/Javascript Page Element contains the script for the Google AdSense link unit. The HTML/Javascript Page Element for the Amazon Omakase skyscraper unit is missing, but is displayed on the web.

Exactly what is going on? I will try to find out.

What update is this: Windows XP Pro, Nortan Internet Security or malware?

I frequently get pop-ups like what you see in the screenshot at the left. There is no indication of whether it is an update for Windows XP Pro, Norton Internet Security or someone trying to trick me into installing malware into my computer. I know if I am to call Microsoft, they will refer me to the reseller. There is no support for Norton products. If you know how to get support from them, I hope you will help me and let me know how to contact Norton support. I have been approached regarding writing a book (print) which I really wants to accept. However, I have a constant stream of comments and emails coming in requesting for help and information, and currently there are a not insignificant number of comments waiting for moderation and response (see screenshot above), my country is currently facing a crucial election (Blog for Positive Changes), the oppositions need lots of help as they are fighting in a very unfair playing field with the dice heavily loaded against them, I have posts waiting to be prepared and published and a myriad other tasks to take care of.

The offer to write a book is a chance in a lifetime which I badly wants to take on. However, it means committing quite large portion of my time to it as deadlines have to be met and I want to do a good job. This will be at the expense of of all the others needing attention. I have a tough choice to make, but I really want to write that book. If you find me responding to your comments and emails slower than usual, I hope you understand.

Problems with a product review site

There is a product review site which is very interesting because the have a ranking system which is very easy to interpret. However, I found a problem with their filters (you can filter for products according to some defined criteria). For paper shredders, you can filter for shredders of different speed and you can see that in the screenshot below (highest speed paper shredders highlighted with red rectangle:

Problem with blank Kontera ContentLink which eventually disappear, leaving behind normal text

This has been a festering problem and if not resolved, or at least a commitment to get the problem resolved, may affect some users confidence in Kontera ContentLink in-text ads. This kind of ads is within the actual content of a website where a visitor's concentration is focused, and thus has the best visibility as compared with ads in the sidebar, etc. Kontera ContentLink in-text ads thus have great potential once the bugs had been ironed out. I know Kontera is fairly new and expect some glitches, but the least I expect is at least to let publishers know that they are working on the problem, but so far, I have not received any such indication.

This is the problem. I not infrequently come across this. I see a Kontera ContentLink, hover my mouse over it, and a blank "pop-up" or "tool-tip" or whatever you may call it, appear:

I watch the blank "whatever" for about a minute, then it disappear, leaving a normal word or phrase which used to be a ContentLink:

I will report this again to Kontera and see what is their response.

Update 17 January 2008: Response from Kontera: "we are aware of this issue but always appreciate getting feedback from our users.

The issue you're describing results from the efforts of our relevancy engine to display the best, most relevant ad per selected keyword. On the rare occasion that such an ad is not found, the link may disappear. This occurs quite rarely with ContentLinks and I'm surprised to hear that you have come across this occurrence several times. I assure you that our teams are working hard to resolve the issue."

Problem with Mojikan message compose editor

Testing out iTalk Buddy and Moji plus Mojikan. Really can't tell if they are separate version of the same application or independent applications by themselves. Whatever, time will probably tell. But there is a current problem when testing out Mojikan "Send Message". When you click that, you get a message compose editor (see screenshot below):

In FireFox, you can type in the SUBJECT and also use the drop-down menu to select from your list of contacts who to send it to, but you can't click inside the COMPOSE window to start typing your message.

However, I retested it in Internet Explorer 6, and with that browser, there is no problem. Managed to send off a test message.

AdSense Link Units: Problems

I have noticed this problem occassionally but now decided to report problem with non-display of Google AdSense link units. I will upload a screenshot of the problem image URL to Google AdSense Support. Their contact form do not provide for uploading of images (screenshots) so I have to upload it here, get the image URL and put the screenshot URL into the message in the AdSense contact form.

I will of cause mention my displeasure at the display of blank space and that if for some reason the link units cannot be displayed, they should at least not leave a blank space.

We will see what Google AdSense have to say about this.

Update: ico format cannot be uploaded from your photo. Looks like the site I want to test for Favicon for my environmental blog Enviroman Says cannot be used unless, I think, you host your own blog. The site only regenerate an ico format photo from your jpg gif and png formats and down download it into your computer. Attempts to upload it to both a Blogger post as well as Photobucket failed .

eSnip Music Player in sidebar problem

I have made a post testing putting the eSnip music player in a post at Test eSnip Music player in blog post. The test was successful. A blogger asked how to fit the eSnip music player in the sidebar. I did a test and successfully added the eSnip music player at the bottom of the first left sidebar of Blogging Ideas. I put a screenshot of the player below:

The problem now is, the play button ended up very small, like this:

Here, you can see the "Play" triangle clearly clearly, and once you click on the "Play" button, it changes to . Here you can see the difference between "Play" and "Stop" (represented by two vertical lines). In the sidebar, unless you have microscopic eyes, you can't see the difference.

Embedded Microsoft Document with MP3 option

I found Scribd and was very happy to see that it allows me to embed Microsoft Word documents, Excel files, Powerpoint presentation, in fact, according to that site, files in all major formats. Not only that, I embedded a Word document at Chinese Dinner at Hua Xing Restaurant at the Sungai Way New Village (Kampong Baru Seri Setia), Petaling Jaya, Malaysia. There are various options at the bottom of the embedded document, including a MP3 option, and I was very happy because here now is a tool I can use to enable blind person to be able to "read" Word documents. I have Apple Quicktime installed in my computer. When I clicked on the MP3 link at the bottom of the document, that downloaded an Apple Quicktime MP3 file which when opened resulted in an MP3 Player as shown in the screenshot below:

(actually, that was from a featured Word document "Ten Things To Do" on Scribd homepage today 14 October, 2007. I used this instead of the above document because I want to make sure that the problem mentioned below is not only for the Word document embedded into my Blogger post, but is the same also for other Word documents). I clicked on the "Play" button, but heard nothing. I have uploaded this screenshot and will be contacting Scribd to see if "playing" a Word document as an audio is possible.

Here is the problem of a blogger:

"Your site is great. I am hoping you will help me with what must be a simple problem. I read your article but my template has the sidebar width as 66%, not px, so percentages instead. Something I did in my sidebar stretched it out and consequently my images look stretched and the whole blog looks less professional. Any chance you could have quick glance at this and tell me how to get it back to a reasonable width? I think the "oveflow fix" may have something to do with it. I must have added something too wide."

Personally, I prefer a fixed width template as I know exactly how my blog will look like irrespective of the screen resolution of the visitors, plus I know exactly the maximum width of photos, scroll boxes, etc. to put in the post or sidebar to accommodate those with small screens as if I put too wide an element, it will make the blog awful to them. You may read about some of the reasons in my post What is the best template for my blog?. As more and more surfers upgrade to large screen, I may change my mind, but I doubt it as I think small screen will always be with us because of laptops.

Anyway, I checked the blog of the blogger who had the problem mentioned above and see not distorted image. I took a screenshot to show you what I mean:

I suspect the blogger may be using a wide screen as they are becoming more popular nowadays. With wide screen, if you chose the wrong screen resolution, your images will become distorted (stretched). A skiny fellow may appear like a fatty. I would suggest to that blogger to try playing with the screen resolution to get the proper resolution so that the image will not distorted (stretch).

EcoSea, apparently a scuba diver enthusiast and avid traveler, have been in communication with each other. I have commented in his blog (comments are moderated) alerting him to the problem and offering various ways in which the problem could be solved. Apparently, from our communications, that comment did not reach him, but I think I will just put a screenshot of the problem photo here:

Google AdSense referral text links not displayed

This is not the first time I have installed scripts for 3 referral text links to be displayed on my blog's sidebar - AdSense, Firefox with Google toolbar and Google Pack. Sometimes, not all text links are displayed. Once it was because I added Google Checkout and Google Checkout is not available for my country. But this time, instead of AdSense, Firefox with Google toolbar or Google Pack, only one text link was displayed, and it was neither of the above three, but only one for "Egypt Market Research Report".

So far, I have only installed referral text or button links for AdSense, Firefox with Google toolbar, Picasa, Google Checkout and Google Pack. However, in my report, I see reports for referrals for other products which I have never installed. This was after they implemented referrals 2.0.

I think if Referral 2.0 have a way to optimize their referral links, probably for the optimal earning potential. However, if they want to do that, what they should do is to display all 3 referral links, but replace one with another referral link which they sense may have a higher earning potential.

However in the case of Guide to Egypt, what I saw was only one referral text link, that is "Egypt Market Research Report". The other referral text link I included wasn't displayed. I think this is unwise of AdSense and I shall report this to AdSense Support and see what they have to say about it.

Things are not static, and not only that, what is displayed may depend on the location of the visitor, so I show below a screenshot of what I saw when I visited the blog:

I was very suprised to see this pop-up on my computer screen. It is a pop-up to sign into maybank2u.com, Malayan Banking online banking site. I have never sign in this way before and am wondering if this is a phishing attempt:

Macrokiosk of Malaysia have been heavily implicated in the SMS scam where mobile phone subscriber receive SMS they did not subscribe to and were charged for it. This had been going on for a long time and there had been numerous complaints, but the authorities have been dragging their feet in solving the problem and penalise the perpetrators. Recently I logged into maybank2u and to my surprise, saw this pop-up. Is Maybank getting into the act as well?

Is this spoofing?
